I have a CD that a friend gave me. He says it is bootable, but I cannot get my computer to recognize it when I hold down C on on startup, or even if I select it as the startup disk. I have a feeling that when he burned it that he forgot to make it bootable, but I can't find any utilities out there that can tell me definitively if the CD is bootable. Any suggestions on how to solve this dilemma?

Here's a solution: Tell your friend it doesn't work on your machine. If it is OS 9.0.4, it has to be started up with on a hard drive before it is burned or else it won't be bootable. There is something that the system has to do before it gets burned onto the unchangeable disk.

There is also the possibility that the disk is bootable, just not on your particular machine. My G-3 disks won't boot up a PM 9150, and so forth.
