Energy Saver will not allow time change

Running 8.1 on a G3. Whenever I try to adjust the "Put System to sleep" time in Energy Saver (ES), it freezes up, and requires a restart. The error message is System Error type 10, for whatever that's worth. I went back to my OS 8.0 CD and got the Energy Saver Control Panel / Application and Extension by installing parts of the OS onto a Zip disk. This gives me ES 2.0.5 whereas I had 2.0.7 with the 8.1 update. I also trashed the ES Prefs and restarted before copying the new ES CP and Extension to my System Folder. It behaves the same as before. I searched in vain on the Apple site for the "latest and greatest" version of ES, and then resorted to the 8.0 CD. Any ideas?

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.

Make sure you have Multiprocessing stuff installed.
its stored at Macintosh HD:System Folder:Extensions:Multiprocessing:

I've got that folder. The only thing in it is Mutliprocessing API Library. It is version 1.4
