OK, somebody sent me a movie in "asf" format and Quicktime can't open that. So I told them to send it again in .mpg format because I thought Quicktime would open it, but I click on the movie and Quictime tells me "Couldn't open the file because a software component needed by the movie could not be found". Huh????

The movie icon has the little Quicktime logo on it. Why can't Quicktime open the movie?

Computer OS 9.2.2 with Quicktime verson 5.0.2 Pro.

Thanks folks!

"asf" format is a Windows Media Player format from Microsoft. Head over to microsoft.com and pick up the lastest player - it's available for both 9 and X.

When you said, "Send me an .mpg" you should have said "MPEG-1 encoded video". Can quicktime decode MPEG-2?

And yes, unfortunately, asf files are for "A$$ $ucking F*cking" Windows Media Player. It blows, but it's better than not being able to play them at all.

So, how do you view a MPEG-2? Windows Media Player? Or is there a more "Mac" alternative?
