I just installed LinuxPPC 2000 onto my iMacDV this morning, and it seems to work OK, though some settings don't seem to want to stay set.

I figure this is most likely because I'm still booting into Linux with the CD. I'd like to boot directly from /boot, but the instructions for doing this make no sense to me.

It involves editing the yaboot.conf file, which is trivially simple, but the manual talks about this as though I were editing the copy on the CD!

I've run a search for yaboot.conf on my hard drive, and it comes up with nothing.

If anyone else has managed this, please let me know how you did it.

Thanks!

You may get what you need from the fake system folder on the Cd if it didn't get install properly. Contents of /boot:
first.b
kernel.h
ramdisk.image.gz
second.b
System Folder:
Finder
MacOS ROM
System
yaboot.conf
System.map
System.map-2.2.15pre3
vmlinux.2.2.15pre3
yaboot

On my system, / is partition 13, /boot is partition 12, change to suit your Mac. /boot must be a MacHFS Standard partition.

Contents of the file yaboot.conf:
init-message = "\nWelcome to LinuxPPC!\nHit <TAB> for boot options.\n\n"

timeout = 50
default = linuxppc

image=hd:12,vmlinux.2.2.15pre3
label=linuxppc
novideo
root=/dev/hda13

image=hd:13,vmlinux.2.2.15pre3
label=install
initrd=hd:13,ramdisk.image.gz
initrd-size=8192
novideo

The format of my reply was modified when posted. The files in the fake system folder are:
> Finder
> MacOS ROM
> System
> yaboot.conf

All the rest are in the root directory.
