Okay, here's the deal. I like customizing the look of my desktop, and I was wondering if I could change the default placement of icons under 9.1. For example, make the icons start out at the top left corner, and go right, as opposed to the top left going down. Or, when I insert a CD, have it automatically go to a certain spot on the Desktop.

Does anyone know of ways to do this? ResEdit, 3rd party extensions, anything?

Do this.
1: Place your icons where youu want them.
2: Crank up Script editor
3: Hit the "Record" button then go to your desktop
4: Select all then click and hold on one icon. move it very slightly away from your prefered location then, move it back and let go.
5: go back to the Script Editor and hit the "Stop" button.
Notice that Script Editor will now write its own script!
Save as a applet (Classic) and put in your Startup Items folder!
I also have one set to a Fkey (for after games)

I thought about that, but will that work on CD's? If it comes down to that, that's what I'll do, but I was hoping for a more elegant solution. Like, if I hit arrange by kind it would automatically arrange them in the way that I wanted.

This is basically useless, since you have to make a new script each time you add items to the desktop (happens a couple of times a day here).
