I have updated to 9.1 and now I have often system freeze's. I totally re-installed from 9.0 disk and then upgraded to 9.0.4 and then 9.1 and the problem still persists. It seems to be only with internet apps. IE is the worst but entourage and netscape (4.76) cause it as well. Usually happens after no more then 1/2 hour surfing.

Prior to the re-install IE would freeze up immediately. If I deleted all of the system folder stuff and the IE folder and re-installed it would work once.

The old stand-by trick that's always worth trying is trashing preference files...
Certainly for your browsers. Maybe also the Internet Config ?

I'm using Mozilla after having used IE5 somewhat "successfully" for last year because it locks up my system on a few web pages now - 2 minutes - and can't do anything while I wait. NC 4.75 is okay but things there aren't perfect.

I gave IE5 48MB because it would end up wanting that much at times. I give NC 64MB and it definitely likes to have and immediately loads 72MB. I have 512.

Once the Internet Preference file "goes bad" you need a backup with just basic settings, a good backup etc. There are a few extensions maybe. And I felt at first the with 9.1 it was better. Except those few instances.

I like the general feel - and idea - of Mozilla. I'm still using and waiting for iCab to fix some lingering bugs and lacks https, good scrolling, but has lots to commend it for.

My mac also freezes up about once an hour. When it does the "disk light" is on, the icon on the upper left hand side of the screen. It happens mainly with iTunes, iMovie 2 but not always. What is wrong and what can I do to fix it. I have Tech Tool Pro 3.02, but I dont know if it will help with OS 9.1

If you have DiskLight, you probably have Norton Utilities installed. Do you have an updated version? Anything before version 5 will kill a Mac running OS 9. Personally, I'd delete all of the Norton Utilities stuff--all the extensions and control panel and stick to TTP, or if you want to use Norton, do so off the CD, which doesn't require installation. Until it's updated, TTP might not be able to run the System test effectively on 9.1, but the disk repair utilities should be unaffected. You certainly shouldn't be crashing every hour!
And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

JGZ...
Now that I reread your original post I realize it doesn't describe your "re-install" of 9.0 as a "clean install". If it wasn't, that's always the final word -- then do the upgrades. [ for myself, I'd rather invest in having the whole 9.1 disk]
Also, not only pre-5.0 Norton, but 5.0 Norton has given me funky effects on at least a PB and an iBook.
When in doubt, start clean.

It was a clean install of 9.0 followed by 9.0.4 & 9.1 update. Also added USB card update, ATI card update and installed silverling for the SCSI card.

I have also upped the memory on IE and Entourage. At some point today (Mac is always on retrieving email once per hour and also getting Powerticker updates) it froze up. Then after the restart the 1st attempt at this reply in netscape 4.76 caused a freeze. I can quit netscape and the mouse moves around but you can't select anything. Strange.
