First question: When you made the ram disk, did you check the little box that says "save contents at shutdown" ? If you did, then everything you had on the ram disk will be saved, and if this included alot of files or apps, or even a few very large files, then it will take a while for the save process to complete and allow the shutdown/restart to be completed. Depending on the size/number of files, it could take anywhere from a few seconds to over 10 minutes.....

and BTW, if you used over 1/2 of your available ram for the disk, it will take F O R E V E R !!!! trust me , I learned that the hard way

Muttfree is correct, the ram disk cursor means it is saving your data to the hard drive in preperation for shutdown. Sounds like you probably have a huge RAM disk and just aren't waiting long enough.

Does anyone know of a hack that removes the warning at shutdown when you're using the RAM disk? I find it very annoying, telling me the contents will be lost, then I have to hit "ok" before shutdown completes. The only alternative I know of is to save the RAM disk contents at shutdown, but then shutdown takes too long.

Maybe a resedit guru knows a little trick?

I couldn't find anything in a search on Apples web site...

Check this URL for a basic, although somewhat old, insight: http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n16809

And also here: http://www.gnujobs.com/mark/articles/Ramdisk.html
even though this one is for linux, the principles are the same

I found these quickly using Sherlock, lots of others out there, although most of them concern linux, but again the idea is the same.>>>.SPEED
