Is there an easy way to shorten the time that a client Mac waits for a AppleShare server which might have fallen asleep?

Some users continue to complain that their iMacs freeze periodically when trying to wakeup, sometimes. These users are almost always connected to another Mac via AppleShare and don't bother to disconnect from the server. I have been able to reproduce this state of affairs sometimes and suspect that the client iMac has not frozen but is waiting for the other Mac. Then the users become impatient and restart the client iMac.
