How can I install mac os 9 if the computer want let me boot from the cd?

I tried everything holding down the c button and going to the extension and setting it up so that the cd-rom is booted up from first still no luck? Can you please help!

On a machine that slow, you will be much happier with performance if you install 8.6.

One thought is to boot up while holding the Option key. That may work.
