If you mean 'proper' then click on app, go to 'get info:memory' and it will tell you its preferred size.
Many users will recommend a higher setting for certain apps [taking effect after restart] and it would be handy to have a page dedicated to this.
Had recently, and foolishly, boosted sherlock to 4grand [IE5 was set high too].
Not recommended: Sherlock and IE5 head-butted each other until I came to my senses.
