I have a G4 Mac with a 20 GB hard drive that has been partitioned into three smaller drives. My question is: Does it make any difference in application performance if my applications reside on a different partition than my system folder/startup disk?
I've been using Macs for 13 years now, but have never heard any mention of this. I'm assuming that silence I heard means that there is no speed loss caused by such an arrangement.

Little or no performance hit for different partitions on the same hard drive.

A small performance benefit for your applications if you can choose a separate disk on a separate controller channel for their scratch files.
