...to convert a picture I snapped of the desktop to a jpeg or some other form so that I can send it to a PC without the purchase of SnapZPro? I know that in its' present form it can't be opened by the alien contingent.

There are plenty of free and shareware apps out there, but the best bar none is GraphicConverter ( http://www.graphicconverter.net ). To make PC transition easier, make sure in the "Save" section of the preferences that you have it NOT add a resource fork.
