Drive Partitions

I had a recent situation installing OS 9.2.1 and drive partitions. I have a 40 GB drive partioned 5 ways: Classic, OS X, Temp, Downloads, and Apps. After doing a clean install and having all the software in place all seemed fine. After using the computer for an hour or so the system would suffer a severe crash. With a little investigation it seems to have something to do with 9.2.1 and partitions. I have resorted to OS 9.1 and all seems fine though I do get the odd "hickup" once in a while. As a result I'm going to spend a weekend and do another complete reinstall. Does anyone know the partition order and where the OS should be? Has anyone had similiar problems?

(System Info: BW G3/512 Ram, 40 GB Maxtor, Dual Video)
