i held down y upson startup of my mac, thought it would present me with startup disk options! NOPE!

Now i am presented wih a flashing smiling mac and question mark. All i want to do is get my operating system back. Can anyone help?

You need to hold down option to be able to select drive to start from.

If you have one of the newer computers, holding down "option" will do the trick. If that doesnt work, boot up off of a Mac OS cd and select your startup disk when the computer is booted up.
