minor but annoying problem: every time I restart my machine, the General Controls "Documents" button reverts to "Folder that is set by the application" even though I always change it to "Last folder used in the application"

Suggestions?

Have you tried enabling Multiple Users in the Extensions Manager panel?

Does your clock keep resetting also? (date...)

If so you may need a new PRAM battery.

Try trashing the General Control prefs - if that doesn't help, trash them, reset them, and lock them. That way it won't revert.
