After installing OS 9.1, I can't print to my inkjet or generate PostScripts with the printer drivers I have - Quark, Illustrator and even SimpleText all say that I don't have a printer connected. Anyone else get this problem, and did they fix it?

And now for something completely obvious.

Have you checked to make sure everything is firmly plugged in ?
If on a USB hub have you tried plugging them in directly?
Have you upgraded your drivers?

I had no problems with my Deskjet, PDF Writer, or Virtual Printer.

Allah - good questions, and yes - everything has been checked, upgraded and re-connected. The printer has been connected to my keyboard and the back of the computer. I've read in other threads where people had the same problem and just re-chose the printer in the Chooser - no luck. I'm going to try to get in touch with Apple (snicker) since this is a new two-weeks old G4, but I don't expect results. Right now I'm back with 9.04.

The news states that 9.1 will be part of OSX, so I may just wait for that version - which may have other fixes and will hopefully be the CD version rather than the download version - to upgrade.

Thanks for your help!

It does indeed sound like it "could" be a hardware issue to me. I've had 9.1 installed on several networked Macintosh systems at work now since the day after it's release and have had no problems with printing (which we do ALOT of, wer'e a Graphics shop).

However, wer'e utilizing networked printers via ethernet connections and not direct printers via USB/SCSI or whatever.

Just a "sidebar" here )))))

Anyone have any problems with AdobePS 8.6? (or whatever the latest flavor is?)

We got it on an Adobe InDesign CD so I've installed it on like two mac systems and it seems to be "un-choosable" now :-/

Mike

can't use my brother multi function device anymore. the chooser won't let me choose it as the printer. in fact, it says "the hl-1200 printer cannot be chosen." have to reinstall 9.0 on my other drive and see if that makes it work again. bummer.

Adobe 8.6 problems.

OHHHHhhh yeah! Error messages galore.

I'm trying to set up a networked canon 8000 printer, on OS 9.0.4 and the printer definition doesn't appear in the chooser device list.

I'm shaky as a 5 minute old bambi on network printing with Macs (thanks to my mass immersion into NT for the past year), and would appreciate even the most basic of help.

Thx.

This happened to me and it took days to track down... but here's something that works: Trash your Laserwriter 8 extension that was installed with Mac OS 9.1 and put the 9.0.4 version in your extensions folder. Reboot your computer and then choose your printer.
