And I had my hopes up that Apple would solve this problem with the latest release, but no!

I have a DSL connection with a "keep alive" connection under MacPoet. However, S/W Update "kills" any running software -- thereby kicking me off of the internet. And breaking the connection so S/W Update WON'T update.

What I don't understand is that an earlier version worked fine. The Apple Tech Info Library still says that they "are aware" of the problem and it will be solved soon. I guess not in this version!!!

I'm just ranting and complaining. Hopefully those of us on DSL will get to use this neat feature at some time soon. And I PRAY that it will work under OS X!!!

delete the Software Update Pref file, the Software Update Logs file, and Updatable Items file... restart and rebuild desktop. This worked for me. Thanks to wlonh.

Really? Did you have the same problem that I'm having -- the DSL connection requires a "dialer." But when Software Update tries to update, it kills all open applications, including the "dialer?"

The fix that you describe seems to be better aimed at fixing a problem with corruption or something similar. S/W Update kills my open application on purpose. It doesn't seem to be an error or anything like that.

Pleaes confirm -- and I'll give it a try. Thanks!
