was just wondering if there's an option lurking somewhere on my 'puter that will allow me to quit all open apps with one fell swoop.

if it involves applescript then i'll probably get confused so please make it simple.

There are all kinds of shareware or freeware programs that can do this. Go to www.download.com and search for "quit application" - there are control strip modules, application switchers, or other things that will work. I use a control panel called LiteSwitch, which uses command-Tab to switch applications and can hide or quit them.

TaskMenuBar: it lets you quit all apps, switch to an app and hide all others (or switch to the finder and hide all others), and it adds a customizable menu of application or folder icons right on the left side of your top menu strip.

In a word, it rocks. I wish OS X had used something like this in place of the dock.

Just a quick endorsement of LiteSwitch. I got it and it is quite handy. And free, too.
