Control Strip disk thrashing

I have Control Strip 2.0.2d1 and Mac OS 9.0.4 running on a G4/400. Every time I start up, the system HD is being accessed every second. Checking Find File for recently modified files shows that even if the machine has been idle for some time, Control Strip prefs is being updated all the time. Here's the strange bit - using Process Manager module 1.4 I can force quit CS. When I run CS control panel, it asks if I want CS to start up. Now with CS running the disk is not accessed. Why?
