Windows terminal server client, an application that allows you to run software on a remote server, transmitting only the video (like xWindows on unix or citrix win/meta frame), comes bundled w/ Win2k pro. Our company makes extensive use of this tool for server administration and remote access. Is anyone familiar w/ this tool or the protocol? If this could be ported to the MacOS, it would make the a mac much eaiser to justify in a coporate environment. At my company, there is a small foothold of macs, but because of manditory software requirements (such as visio and exchange/outlook- and I know there is a mac exchange client but it, in a word, sucks) all the mac users have a PC as well. The added expense makes it harder to justify puchasing more macs, even though there are users clamoring for them. If we could run these apps over windows terminal server, like would be damn near perfect. As the only data that is transmitted is screen redraws, it seems possible.

Any thoughts?

Windows Terminal Server is just Citrix Win/MetaFrame licensed (and perhaps somewhat customized) by Microsoft. Since Microsoft doesn't want to support non-Windows clients, which might actually encourage someone to - gasp! - not purchase a Windows workstation, they don't include the Mac client. Citrix does offer their Mac client as a free download, but I don't see anything indicating that it will work with Windows Terminal Server. Doesn't cost anything other that time to try it, though.
