Every night the finder automatically "updates" the index of my hard drive, which is no big deal because I hit stop and it goes away. But does anyone know what the benefit would be of allowing it to update the index?
Can you set the schedule of when this event occurs and if so, how? I can't find an option for this process in my control panels.
I'm running OS 9.1 on a TiBook .

thanks !

Well, this is kinda silly, but I just figured out the answer to my own question. Within Sherlock, you control the schedule by selecting "indexing volumes" in the "Find" menu. Ahhhh.....the last, little, irritating enigma solved. Mac on!

Suggestion
Disable the useless feature. You'll find your finder is fast enough without indexing.
