I have a PowerMac 7300 running system 8.5. Every time I restart the computer, I have to reselect my printer in the chooser. Anyone know how to fix this?

I know that OS 8.6 and even 9.0 are out, but I'm otherwise happy with 8.5.

thanks

This sounds like a class 'corrupted preferences file' problem. Did you try trashing the preferences file for the chooser?

ain't no such animal

no file for the Chooser called Chooser Pref's or whatever... oddly enough i've never heaard of this problem not 'remembering' the printer.

shot in the dark: zap PRAM

hey i said it was a shot in the dark, who knows, it won't hurt.

hey... you should also turn AppleTalk off and if you need it on , restart and turn it back on. (not such a shot in the dark there)

Thanks for the replies. I'll try zapping PRAM and I always have Appletalk off, so...

I have a friend who has this problem as well (slightly older Mac than mine).

Can it be that your PRAM battery is dead? Look for "PRAM" on www.versiontracker.com - you should find a utility that checks it. You may also want to look at www.macfixit.com

If nothing else work, you can always try to install a new System Folder. It is a long process I know, but it should fix most software problems.

I tried zapping---it didn't help. I don't think the battery could be dead, but I will check the site you listed.

I'm trying to avoid reinstalling a system folder, but if all else fails...

Thanks
Jeff
