iTunes vs. Audio CD Player

I've noticed that when playing audio CDs via iTunes, the sound output, especially in the lows, is noticably weaker than using the Apple Audio CD player. With my 3-pc H&K speaker system, it seems that iTunes is not using the iSub as much. I am using OS 9.0.4. Will upgrading to OS 9.1 cure this weak sound problem?
