Hi, How can I play .avi files on my mac ?!

I tried using Windows Media Player and DivX Player but I just get the sound and the picture stays white.

I play avi's through Quicktime or just drag them onto a browser window.

Play them with Mac DivX player, from mac.divx.st.
It requires WMP 6.3.

I suspect the AVI files I play thru the browser are not the same as the movie AVI's that you need to play thru a Divx player. The AVI's I have are made with my Toshiba Digital Camera, its one of those digital cameras that shoots pictures and little 60 sec movie files also.

why do they both have the .avi extension? what is the difference?

It's all in the codec that they used to compress it. Even on my PC at work I had to download a special codec for Media Player to play a divx .avi file. Not many .avi files have been playable on my Mac, using QT or Media Player or Real, and it's all because of the codecs that people use. Who knows why there are so many......?

Almost no .avi movies i have tried worked on my Mac yet and i have downloadin everything under the sun for them. I suspect u have the same type of avi i didn and as far as i can tell they are not playable yet on the mac.
