Does anyone know why the Software Updater does not always catch the newest versions of stuff out there? When 9.0.4 came out I ended up having to go and download it directly from apple's site. Some of my friends have also had problems with this, the Software Updater tells them that there is no software updates available, when they know there is.

Who knows? Apple just posted another improved Software Update. Truthfully, give me binary download I can rely on. What if I do need an update and can't get to the net for that component?

This is one feature that adds more problems than it cures.

It's downloaded a component when a newer one was already installed.

Marketing hype. Compaq and Dell and Gateway and IBM can do it.

Every new feature of OS 9 - and even improvements to OT have also added new problems.

Gee, then we get to start all over with OS X. Unix has a long history - let's hope that Apple doesn't try to improve that too much also.
