Hi

The "enable TCP/IP file sharing" check box is greyed out. Why?

I have file sharing turned on, AppleTalk active set to Ethernet, a folder shared, TCP/IP set to Ethernet.

The program-linking option does NOT have TCP/IP option greyed out.

Anyone have any ideas what I'm missing for TCP/IP file sharing to work?

bye

Bill

What this probably means is that you have an old build of Sonata... They put in the GUI parts before the Networking stuff was done. I woudl guess from this that you are not a seeding site then.. or if so, simply do a re-install to the newest build (waiting for GM myself... not long now!)

I have a related question... This stuff about File Sharing over TCP/IP, does it mean that if I have File Sharing turned on people will be able to connect to me via the "Server IP Address..." thing in the Chooser from anywhere, or is that sort of thing still limited to products like AppleShareIP?

Cheers!

Actually, I have the same on my PowerCenter Pro 210 -- just installed it this afternoon (off the CD, mind you!) and I can't do a blamed thing to get it to work. HOWEVER, Program Linking over TCP/IP does work. Any ideas?

I think I read somewhere that you need to install Personal WebSharing. If that's true the name WebSharing is at the least confusing. Try it, and post your results please.

Tried turning on WebSharing and it still doesn't work. For the record, the local router is /not/ configured to support AppleTalk, only TCP/IP. But this really shouldn't matter... it simply will not turn on.

I got it! For some odd reason, MacOS 9.0 doesn't like to install ShareWay IP Personal Bgnd which is required for TCP/IP AppleTalk tunneling. Solution: Use TomeView to nab it from the main MacOS 9.0 tome. Problem solved!

I've found that if you do a custom install of Mac OS 9, the Shareway IP extension may not be installed (at least with all of the betas and RCs that I tried).

I did not do a custom install of the GM and retail versions and the Shareway IP Personal Bgnd was installed by the installer.
