I'm running macOS9.2 and after trying several times to install MACOS10.1 and getting the message:

"start up disk was unable to select the install cd as the start up disk (-2)"

can someone tell me how to get around this problem

I have disconnected all my peripherals, leaving only keyboard and mouse connected. I think I should mention that I have a slave hard 60GB hard Drive which I use only for backup purpose

Thanks,

This might work for ya:

When booting up from the CD, you're holding down the 'C' key on your keyboard. Watch you monitor, when you get the happy face, immediately let go of the 'C' key, and press the 'Shift' key (starting up with extension off). I'd recommend continue holding down the 'Shift' key until you see your desktop (I've had problems where if I let go of the key too soon, the computer stops booting up.

Good luck! And hope this solves your prob.

Try the folllowing:
1. Zap PRAM; if it doesn't help then
2. disconnect your HD, restart from CD, select CD as start-up disk in the control panel, shut down.
3. Connect HD, start from CD and run FirstAid; better: If you got a bootable disk with DiskWarrier, run it
4. Select HD as start-up disk an restart or install new OS
5. Good luck

What happens when you hold down the Option key at startup? Which disks appear? What happens if you select the CD at that screen?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
