This is really making me angry. Everytime I put in a floppy or even my Iomega HipZip, my iMac says it is unreadable, either eject or initialize. Whenever I go into OS X, it works fine. Whats going on?

THey took floppy support out of os9 on 9.1 i believe. Could be related? I dont know much about the hipzip, but i'd have to assume it is treated similaryly to a floppy. Try installing the hipzip software and see if it works.

For some reason the file exchange control panel wasnt installed in my system folder but it was in my back up. That was weird. I put it back in and now it works....stupid file exchange .

They most certainly did not remove floppy support in 9. It's gone in X, but it works just fine in 9.

What kind? The internal floppy on my Beige G3 is dead. Works fine in 9 but doesn't do a bloody thing in X.

It is not completely gone, but they removed a lot of parts of it. Notice that you cant initialize floppies anymore? You cant format the disks, but you can read/write them.
