I have a G4 450 with the DVD-ROM running OS 9.0.4. The DVD software is version 2.2 and software update says I do not need to update any software. Apple DVD player cannot open certain DVD's because "The disk may be dirty or scratched, or the disk manufacturer encoded the disk incorrectly". I cleaned the disks, but the error still shows up so I am assuming that DVD OS 9 doesn't have support for this type of encoding. Is there any way to find or install these drivers or are these DVD's windows only? Is there any way around this?

One thing to try is to hold COMMAND-OPTION-I (eye, not one) righta fter you insert the DVD.
Also, try deleting the "Apple DVD Player Prefs"
