hi all,

i'd like to take and just swap my 10gb hard drive with my new 30gb one. Is there an easy way to do this, meaning, how can i image the data and put it on the new hard drive without reloading everything?

can i just mount the new hard drive as a slave and drag and drop the data over, remove the old hard drive, put the new one with the copied data as primary and call it day?

Well, you could always buy yourself a USB or Firewire enclosure and get your data that way. Then you would have a backup device for later use. www.xlr8yourmac.com has really good info on building your own external drives.

it's not that i want more hard drive space (well i do)... i just want to be able to put in my nice IBM Deskstar 30gigger and use the 10gb stock one a smaller machine... and i was wondering if i can just "image" it onto the new hard drive, or should i just back up the data, and commit to a re-install.

if you're running OS 9.x, there should be no reason you couldn't image the drive and copy it onto the new drive. however, if you've installed OS X, you'll need to re-install the OS from your installer CDs.
