Subject: FW: Mac OS 9.1, Epson Printing, ATM 4.6.1 Light and Suitcase 9.0.1

After much troubleshooting and research on Macintosh web sites, I have
finally hammered out the solution to my problem:

I was trying to get a G4/533 to print to a new Epson 777. The following
related softwares were installed:

Stylus Color 777/777i V6.4aA
OS9.1
Suitcase 9.0.1
ATM4.6.1 Light

Most applications would not print, reporting a numbered error or a message
asking me to go to the chooser and pick a printer.

I disabled ATM and printing worked. However, this was an unacceptable
solution. I tried several older verions of ATM with no luck.

I finally decided to troubleshoot the problem like any other and ended up
changing the load order of ATM and Suitcase Menufonts. I loaded the Suitcase
Menufonts control panel first by renaming it - putting a space between the
"~" and "Suitcase". That did the trick.

Now, I have the G4 printing to the Epson 777 (Epson launcher and all
USBPrint Class extensions are loaded) and the G4 is sharing the printer via
Apple's USB Printer Sharing. The 8500 across the room has the same software
(OS 9.1, Suicase 9.0.1, ATM 4.6.1 Light) installed and can print to the G4's
Epson 777 via USB Printer Sharing.

Dear Adam and Friends

I ran into the same problem on a number of machines when the 9.1 update was first released. I was unable to find a solution on my own, so I consulted MacFixit. Your solution is exactly what MacFixIt recommended in its Troubleshooting Mac OS 9.1 report.

I would have figured that either Adobe or Extensis would have released a fix for this by now.

Take care, fellow AMUG buddy.

Sincerely,
Jaddie
