Nevermind...It finally occurred to me to use the help built in to the system (as I said I'm on vacation...brain turned off) and discovered it is apple+option.
It's much better to use the free version of TechTool: http://www.micromat.com
Why? Because TechTool deletes the current desktop files and creates new ones from scratch.
So? If your desktop files are corrupted, the Command-Option method may make things worse.
Other applications can do this as well:
Conflict Catcher
Trash€Desktop
On the other hand, I've used the Delete Desktop routine from within TechTool Pro and had it cause corrupt icons which I fixed using the old keyboard restart method.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.
