Does anybody know how stable/safe emulating an old OS is? I know of some emulators (vMac for instance) that can emulate OS 6 up to 7.5.5, but I don't know how safe it is to use. The instructions on how to use it are very shady at best (from saying you need something which they refuse to put on their website).
Anyway, I just wanted to know b/c I need it to use some old stuff from OS 7.

Emulating is quite safe. All you are really doing is running another application. It's kinda like running an older version of a program, nothing bad will happen.

However, if you don't own a Mac Plus to leech a ROM from, there's no legal way to get a ROM... get that Hotline ready

Are you sure? If I remember correctly Apple offers everything (up to system 7 something) for free.

Accually it is up to system 7.5.5 for free and the ROM image for the classic mac isn't the same thing as the system software. The ROM image is not for free and you have to get it on Hotline illegally or get it from an old Mac classic. I enjoy running vMac myself. It is fun playing the old mac 68k games on the ibook. I gave my old 68k mac to my sister and copied all the games. Now I wish there was a mac emulator for the color 68k computers like the performa/LC series. I have one of these on my work pc to trip ppl out and have a Mac desktop on my PC.
