i just learned that the true speech compression technology (which enables speech audio files to be reduced in size to about 64k per minute!) is built into the windoze OS.
is there a similar audio capability that we can do on the macOS??? i need to get some audio speech files down this small for web distribution.

TIA

Yep, it's built into QuickTime, called Qualcomm PureVoice I believe. You need to upgrade QT to the Pro version to do it, though.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
