. . . crashes all the time. Now I can't even get access to it. Used to be able to trash the prefs, then make it work, but now that won't even work. Reinstalled Extensions manager from original disc: still no help. G4 400 sawtooth, 320MB ram, 9.04

Try trashing your Extensions Manager profiles, save the base Mac OS files.

I used to have this same problem. Restarting my PowerBook would solve this issue, though.

"My Settings" is the default name for a profile.

I hope this helps! Perhaps you might have to go a little further and reinstall your system. Remember - that's a last resort, okay?
