I am running a summer 2000 iMac DV400 with 256 MB of physical RAM, without virtual memory on, and using MacOS 9.2.1. I have Explorer 5.1 set up with its cache in a 20MB RAM disk. I have heard, and it makes sense to me, that doing so will help pages draw faster, etc.

It sounds to me as if, when I load a new page or even one I visit frequently, IE is accessing my hard drive to do so. I can hear it working.

But with virtual memory off and a RAM disk, WHY is this happening? Is there another cache somewhere that is not in the RAM disk?

Thanks in advance for your help.

One thing to consider are cookies that are probably being written to your hard-drive.

I'm sure there are other explanations, but I have to go cook dinner.

Hey, Storyboy:

I bet you're right! I hadn't thought of that. Is there a way to move cookies to the RAM disk? (Where are they stored now?)

Thanks for the insight. Hope you had a good dinner.
