Won this on eBay. Now, anyone have experience with these? I was hoping to set it up for email and internet and word processing, but I can't find any info besides www.apple-history.com. Any insight or help would be appreciated!

Well, that kinda helped, i was thinking more of the lines of upgrading to PPC instead of the 68LC040 chip that it has. Thanks though for helping!

Hi there

I used a 68LC040 machine until recently (LC575) and it surfed, emailed and word processed just fine. Just a little slower than what you might be used to.

It is able to run Communicator 4.08 (One of the most stable browsers for mac ever) and things like appleworks no problems.

If you do want a PPC upgrade I think it can be done, but is expensive.

Try here:

Buy it? Its not a free app. As for netscape you can find it on several sites that carry older version of software, http://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/netscape/c...8/mac/68k_761/

Chances are high sonnet doesn't carry that.. I'd reccomend grabbing a 5400 logic board (easily gotten on ebay) for the biggest speed boost... if you want to run OS X on it, you can upgrade from there. It costs more, but you'll probably have an easier time doing it

Enjoy.

Well I also snagged a 5500/225mhz on eBay last night. I know that I have to buy AppleWorks, but what version is the latest that will run on the LC520? I know version 6 is a carbon app, therefore its PPC only. I did get a copy of communicatior 4.08, it was on a MacAddict Disc (is that magazine name allowed?? )

Hi again

My mistake, clarisworks, not appleworks.

I dont think works 5 will run on it. The last version (4?) of clarisworks runs great, and it's not even very slow!

cheers
