We have at work an AGP G4 450Mhz. We tought that the video card died (the original ATI Rage wathever). Since we were in a rush, we took an ATI PCI card from our old G3 and it worked just fine. Then we tried another AGP card with no success, also we tried the card we tought was dead in another Mac and it worked.
So other then replacing the motherboard, what are the options for a dead AGP port? (We bought the G4 second hand and we don't have a warranty)

Let me get this right, the original card after being put back in worked right??????????? I don't know your machine that well but you either AGP2 or AGP4, I think that is right. Anyway, there should be several cards you can choose from if you desire a different video card. Go to Apple's Support Area and look up your machine, and that will tell you what AGP port you have. Then you can choose whatever video card you wish to replace the one you have. My Dual 867 came with a 32 meg. Nvidia card, which has since been replaced by the 128 meg. Nvidia card which makes a world of difference as far as speed is concerned.

No, he's saying he doesn't trust his AGP slot and believes it's going bad because it is working in an intermittent fashion. Short of a motherboard replacement, there is nothing that can be done to fix the AGP slot. If it continues to give you trouble, you'll have to buy the PCI ATi Radeon and put up with reduced performance.

Yep, if the AGP is broken, replacing the mainboard is the one and only thing you can do besides using a PCI video card.
