Just added the Acard ATA/66 controller to my G3/400 Blue and White. I have two Maxtor 40GB-7200rmp drives attached.
The ribbon is set up as follows: Blue connector is on the card, the Black connector is set to the master and the Gray connector is set to the slave. I'm running Jaguar.
Everything seems to be working just fine until I boot up from my Norton Utilities 7.0 disk to defrag the hard drives. The drives do not show up until I manually mount them. I can start up Norton and it will start it's tests until it begins testing the files and I get an error-26. Don't tell me I have to plug the ribbon into the motherboard everytime I want to defrag my drives?
Also, as a side note, what is the point of Norton Utlities for OS-X when you can't fix problems on the startup disk, you can't defrag the startup disk and you can't create a bootable System X startup disk?

It seems that this is a Nortons Utilities problem not the computer or OS X.
Have you tryed other disc utilities like DiscWarrior, Drive 10!

i was having a problem with my sawtooth with a Siig (Acard) ATA133 RAID card, with 2 maxtor 80GB drives striped. every other boot into X, the computer would tell me "you have inserted an unreadable disc". and wouldn't mount the RAID. went into disc utility, it came up with 'incorrect B-tree error', but it would never fix it. the error just kept showing up. so i booted into 9, and ran DiskWarrior on it. now it works fine.
if you can get your hands on it, try something else besides Norton. is there someway you can start up from another drive?

Yes, I have DiskWarrior and TechTool Pro. The problem is that when I boot off a CD (OS 9.2) the drives are not coming up. I have to manually mount them, similar to using SCSI Probe in the old SCSI days. When I do that, it seems to cause problems for some reason with the diagnostic software. I've tried contacting the manufacturer (Acard), but support from them is near non-existent.
If I unplug the ribbon from the card and plug it back into the motherboard, everything works fine and I was able to optimize my drives. I hook the card back up and same problem. I've even tried changing up the order of the cards in the PCI slot. I also have an Adaptec SCSI card in another slot. My thought was that there could be a loading order?
