Hi all, I have a dual ghz MDD and when burning to DVD (movie or backup) it always fails during verification towards the end. Always at the same place. I burn at 2x. 1x works just fine. I'm using the Apple DVD recordable media.

Any ideas why this happens?

Firware updated? Is the Dvd tray clean? Is your media clean? Did you dust you dvd drive with air?

If it fails during verification, does it still work in another machine? Usually burning is finished when ver starts.

yeah, do the discs still work, even if verification fails? i've had some discs that were on verification and the machine stalled and i had to reboot. tried the discs afterwards and they were fine.

1. The firmware update provided by Apple.com says it does not apply to this drive:

For drives with the Product Identification DVR-104, no update is required if the Device Revision number is A227 or higher.
This is also confirmed if I try and run the updater I get a message saying I can't use this update.

2. DVD tray is clean, in fact, this happened with the very first DVD I put in when the machine was fresh out of the box - and every 2x burnt DVD since.

3. Media is spotless. I've tried air dusting too.

4. Verification fails, indicating the burn did actually fail. I always try viewing the data disks afterwards opening the very last folder I burned which results in a Finder lock up. I have also burned movies which always stop in any DVD player just before the end (about 10 mins left). Again, this does not happen when I use 1x.
