2 times within 3 minutes my motherboard beeped, from my Beige G3.

It also has done this 2 times just after startup chime within the last month.

I replaced the battery in November, so it isn't that.

THis computer has to survive through August 2004 at minimun, I CAN"T AFFORD A NEW COMPUTER PERIOD. I am out of work, and am unable to work, so buying a new computer is out of the question or used one.

Any ideas? Radeon Mac:Ediiton fan? I opened up the computer, and felt air, and it was cool.

So like you didnt even mention if your computer is working or not?

A quick search for "beige g3 beep" on google, first result:

1 beep = No RAM has been detected.
2 beeps = The RAM is incompatible with your Mac.
3 beeps = None of the RAM banks passed the memory tests.
4 beeps = Bad checksum for the remainder of the boot ROM.
5 beeps = Bad checksum for the ROM boot block.

So... bad RAM? Or maybe it came loose. Try taking it out and putting it back in, or put it in a different dimm slot. If you have multiple dimms, test them one at a time.
everything you know is wrong (and stupid)

the beeps last night were while I was using the computer.

someone said Maxtor HD's go bad easily (July 2001). I have a 60GB 7200RP</

also the HD doesn't feel hot.

no beeps today, which is good.

I just hope it's nothing, all EAM is being detected, and I just added 256MB Kingston in July 2001.

I have 32MB,128MB (at time of computer purchase), and 256MB.

maybe nextime it beeps after boot I will check the RAM.

I have over 25GB to backup, and well toast is not behaving (it won't keep the long file names in X).

If this happens while you are running and there are no noticable problems, it is probably not a big deal. Errors with internet connections etc. can cause such beeps at times. Is it the same beep as your alert?

At startup it is typically more serious.

Time to back up all that data.

The beeps weren't from the error tone. all sound it pumped from my stereo via RCA from the computer, the beeps were coming from the computer it'self.

hasn't happened since.
