I went to go configure a a new G4 Tower online and it looks only the high-end model includes bluetooth, the others are bluetooth ready. It looks like it will cost am extra $50 to get bluetooth on the low end models. My question is the upgrade an internal one or just the same usb bluetooth adapter that has been available for a while?
cheers,
scott.

I suspect it's internal for the following reasons :-
The new option is called a 'Bluetooth Module' and costs $50 - part number - 065-4143
The older option is called a 'Bluetooth Adapter' and costs $49.95 - part number - T4728G/B
Looks like a different item to me

From www.apple.com/powermac :
The easiest way to do it is to have the Bluetooth module built in at the time you order your system. If you decide after purchase that you want Bluetooth capability, you’ll need to get an external Bluetooth adapter.
It looks as if you won't be able to buy the internal modules to install yourself later on.
also, if you go to http://www.apple.com/powermac/expansion.html and take a look at the small daughtercard near the modem and airport slot. it looks like it's got a wire coming from it and since it wasn't in the old MDDs i'm guessing it's the bluetooth module.

That is very disappointing news for me.
I just picked up a new 1.25 DP (not here yet, darnit) from another vendor and just assumed I would be able to grab the module and install myself like the airport card in my iBook. A USB Bluetooth module? Bleh, I thought the point of Bluetooth was to limit the number of things plugged into my computer.

Yep, me too. I was totally unwilling to wait a few weeks to BTO one (or wait 2 months for the 1.4...) I have already given feedback to Apple through their Powermac Feedback page and I suggest everyone else does as well. I looked at the slot that it plugs into and I don't see why they aren't allowing us to plug these things in ourselves. Probably less complicated than installing Airport in an iBook or even a DIMM.

nah I bet the bluetooth model can be purchased through apple.
I think those are the old g4 pics, however. The airport slot is still there and on the new machines they use the mini PCI card.
Can anyone verify this?

Directly from the Apple site for the new Powermac:
Interested in getting Bluetooth capability for your Power Mac G4? The easiest way to do it is to have the Bluetooth module built in at the time you order your system. If you decide after purchase that you want Bluetooth capability, you?ll need to get an external Bluetooth adapter.
If I can find someone who will let me order it as a service part that would be OK with me. I don't care if it comes in a nice retail box.

I wonder why you couldn't add it yourself later. I mean I doubt it is soldered to the logic board.

It may be that they have a limited number of them and just don't want to sell the retail versions for a few months. Just a "could be" thought.

The Bluestooth IS internal. There's a daughter card slot at the corner near the airport Ex slot. It snaps in and is secured with 2 screws.
