Having nearly purchased a previous model then pulling out after learning of the atrocious noise of the first MDD models, I don't want to take any chances this time and would like to hear some firsthand accounts.

Could someone who has experience with the noise generated by various computers please comment on the relative quietness of the new MDDs?

(bump)

Anyone got / heard one yet?

Any relative noise comparisons, eg, "quieter than a QuickSilver, noisier than a dual-450" etc...

Try these three places:

1. http://discussions.info.apple.com/We...9250@.3bbeac68
look for posts by Joe -- a new owner, who took great photos. Claims more quiet, but still a PS whine.

2. Photos: http://homepage.mac.com/josephcortney/PhotoAlbum1.html

3. Analysis of new parts & their functions
http://www.g4noise.com/forum/index.p...f=18&t=124

"rev A" PS from AcBel is now 350watts vs "rev B" (MDDs) which was 400 watts; PS fans supposedly now take advantage of temperature sensor which was in the MDDS but not activated; thus PS fans run on lower voltage genrally, and are more quiet. See discussion for more.

Thanks!

The G4Noise forums seem to have the most info.

I'd seen that site before but didn't know it had forums.
