will the new single processor model be upgradable to a dual at some point in the near/distant future without having to throw away the single chip, i.e. just stick another one in there?

probably not. you'd probably have to take out the old one, and put a new dual module in, just like all the other G4 upgrades that are available.

Don't count on it.

I seem to recall something like that quite a few years ago. But in those days CPUs were much slower/simpler than today.

I can't imagine a co-processor board that could work in any intelligent fashion given the hardware requirements today. The speeds are simply too fast.

Well considering you have dual upgrade for non DDR macs rite now, your machine will be of course upgradable. Just a matter of time before one of the upgrade company makes it

You just get a new dual board and sell the old one on eBay.

Single 500Mhz G4 are going for like $150-200. You could get $300 for a single 1Ghz.
