OWC has http://eshop.macsales.com/Item_XLR8Y...;Item=OWCZ4350 "Apple G4/350MHz ZIF with 1024K 2:1 Cache. Tested Pull, 90 Day OWC Warranty. (OWCZ4350)" for $99.
They also have http://eshop.macsales.com/Item_XLR8Y...tem=OWCZ4450MA "OWC MercuryZA G4/450 MHz Altivec Enhanced ZIF with 1MB@225MHz 2:1 Backside Cache. New with 2yr OWC Warranty. (OWCZ4450MA)" for $189.
would the 100 Mhz difference really be noticable? 90 bucks noticable?
I was looking to upgrade my g3 350 B&W (110 gigs of HD space and a Radeon 7000) so it would last another year or so. If i ever get a new powermac, the B&W would remain as my webserver/storage space computer.
OsX.2 is only run on it and its on all the time.
I mainly use my computer for internet crap, warcraft 3 and Protools (or will again when PT6 comes out).
would the difference between a G3 and G4 at the same MHz make the system 'snappier'? on a snapiness facter scale of 1 to 10, would it make me go from a 2 to a 3 or to a 6?
thanks peoples!!!

Well, I can tell you for sure that OS X is not snappy? at all with a G4/350. I have a G4/350 AGP PowerMac (640MB RAM, GeForce2 MX AGP). It's usable but it's not snappy.
Unfortunately I can't tell you whether a G4/450 will be a lot snappier, but I can tell you one thing for sure: Going from a G3/350 to a G4/350 ain't worth a buck.

I disagree. My B&W is plenty snappy with a 450 G3.

My G4/350 is not snappy™ but it's usable and I think that's the part to focus on

If a G3/350 is to slow so will a G4/450 be.
I would suggest that you either do not upgrade at all and then save the money for the next box or that you buy a G3/800 upgrade. It will be more than twise the speed of your current setup . Like going from a 7300/200 to your G3/350. I ower clocked a G3/300 to 350 and could measure the speed increase but not percive it as such. The G4 is equal to a G3 in everyting but the AV aware applications so getting something below 700 MHz really does not help.

I will be getting a G3 800. The G4 ZIFs will NEVER go faster than 550 without overclocking (with that motherboard), and the 800 more than makes up for the lack of Altivec.
