The high end iMac should bring the following features and price:
High End iMac
$1799
17" Screen (no 19")
1GHz
4x DVD-R
DDR RAM
Bluetooth and Airport Extreme capabilities
While ThinkSecret initially mentioned February 3rd, 2003 as a possible date... according to other reliable rumors, it appears February 4th will bring us the new iMacs.

OK- New "iMac`s"
Will the screens be straight?
Or will they be as "crooked" as all I have seen?
Why is it sooo hard to get it right?

I think that thanks to the airport extreme slot being so small, we might actually see BOTH ram slots user accessable for once!

I don't think there will be a GHz iMac with DDR-SDRAM because in that case, the High End iMac would be just as fast as the Low End PowerMac and Apple will never make that mistake ever again.

Apart from the high-end iMac using a 7450 and the low-end Power Mac using a 7455.
Yeah, I think we'll see a 933 iMac, or possibly a 1 GHz without DDR or L3 cache.
512 KB L2 cache is a definite possibility.

The high end iMac won't be as fast because you know it won't include the L3 cache. Not to mention that PowerMacs are aimed at a different audience then the iMac.

I think Apple may introduce a slightly smaller form factor for the 15" version of the iMac. Anyone think this a possibility?
Perhaps even introduce candy-colours again for this smaller form factor 15" design. (Ever noticed how the iMac base looks way too big for a 15" screen...the 17" doesn't look so bad :-)
Also it may be time Apple introduces a CD-ROM entry-level version of this 15" iMac that would replace the current (Classic) CRT iMac at $799 (or close to that).
That would mean Apple could get rid of the eMac and the CRT iMac in the same go...no more CRTs produced by Apple at all from 2003 onwards :-)

Sorry, but I don't think this is going to happen. To many teachers and schools are worried about students putting their fingers all over the flat panel iMacs, so they will stick with the eMac and CRT iMac. In fact, that is the main reason the eMac was introduced. Teachers were complaining they wanted CRTs for computer labs. I know I only want CRTs in the computer lab I run and teach in. The kids are ALWAYS touching the screen, no matter how many times you tell them not to!!

Couldn't the LCDs be made with a nice protective layer of clear plastic or glass over it that would make it as easy to clean as a CRT?

I could see everything in the rumors specs except DDR coming to the iMac. DDR seems too far fetched at this stage of the game. Maybe next rev.

Why not DDR? It offers no performance boost, so why not go for the title? Heck, they already have the motherboards (in the PowerMac, XServe, and PowerBook), so why not in the iMac as well? It only makes sense, especially from a marketing perspective.

Yea, why not? The only REAL thing that could make the iMac eat away at low end Powermac sales is L3 Cache.
Another reason why we will probably see DDR is that it's in all the new G4 desktops/notebooks and Apple might want to standardize on that.
If they add Bluetooth and AE support, upgrade the CPU, use ddr ram, have improved graphics cards, and keep the price equal or slightly less than the current models, Apple will have created half a dozen switchers (== friends who have seen my mac, want one, and do have the cash )
Less than 24 hours to go, let's see what happens...

Plus, standardized motherboard parts could probably save money.
But all-in-all, the move to DDR would probably be for the marketing assistance. No longer would the iMac boast SDR RAM, but high-speed, ultra-fast DDR RAM! (Wahoo for gimicks )

Am I missing something? ThinkSecret is reporting price drops on eMacs and speed bumps + price drops on iMacs. However, they say prices will start at $1299. Um... that's a price increase.

If you read this article (at the end):
http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/...04064250.shtml
looks like they think the CD-RW will be dropped and the $1299 is for the Combo I guess
