Hello folks, On tuesday 1/28 I was aware apple released New powermacs, I was happy because that morning I was about to run off to CompUsa and purchase a dual 867, thank god I didnt....I was very happy to see the dual 1.25, faster bus, better graphics card model for only a few hundred more, I grabbed the phone called apple directly got a nice lady (Yvonne), placed my order for me, got free shipping (I paid 25$ extra for 2day service)....The same day I ordered it the powermac was shipped! I watched tracking number like a mad man....Yesturday was my delivery date 1/30...A shame but I had to work, Wife was home and waited for fedex man....around 5pm, I Happend to check the tracking number for the 20th time lol, and it said 'incorrect address, rescheduled for 2/3" im like S%^T, Called fedex..complained, apparently the driver couldnt find my house., I winded up leaving work early and driving to the pickup center about 10miles away and getting it myself!!........(sorry for the details, just telling it like it is)...I finally get home and figure this box is freezing (im in Ny) and sitting on the truck for couple days, I would have to let it sit and get room temp before I fire it up...Was hard to just let it sit!!....I opened box, looked inside very pertty :-) I then went to bed and let it get to room temp...I then woke up at 3am (couldnt sleep, could be excitment)..plugged it all in turned it on (anxious for the noise) and my problem was, I never heard the so called 'loud, whiney ones" so I had nothing to compare it too, I pressed power, and to me was nice, its does have a bit of a low whine and right now its dead silence in my house , I can hear it I guess the fans, and it does seem to fluctuate high/low sound but overall smooth and doesnt really bother me at all., Havent had a chance to hear audio on it as of yet...now for the speed, HOLY CRAP, its wicked fast.....VERY snappy, dual g4s, deffintaly the way to go!!....I sold my pent 4 2.4 and this is way better!.....if your gonna go for it, DO it, you only live once ....Im overwhelmed right now with this and need time to play, infact I called in sick today !!! whoohoo.....Well Everyone Thanks for reading and go buy one!..........Dino

At the Apple Stores, you can get all but maybe the 1.42 right now. Comes with iLife preinstalled.

Yes I ordered my dual 1.25 today it sure will beat the 6100/60 that I had for most part at work

To bad here in Europe they are on a 4-6 weeks waiting list for delivery according to the Apple web site. I will have to use a 7300/200 at work for while. After a couple of weeks on that one and a old Apple 15" monitor at 800x600 the dual 1.25 and the 17" will be quite OK

Wow. That's quite an upgrade.
And I thought my upgrade (2 years ago) from a blue & white G3/400 to a dual 800MHz G4 was a big one.

Hey, I still have a Performa 6360 with a 250Mhz G3 upgrade in it at home as one of my workhorse machines.

I love it, it has never failed on me, but hey, going to one of these new machines would be very welcome indeed.

Thank you Apple for continuing to make the Mac price/performance value increase.

Woohoo..nice UPGRADE...

My first Mac, 6100/60AV, is still kickin' on my desk with dual CRT displays...I'm getting the dual 1.25 and 17" ASD. Meanwhile, I'm using an iMac 333 now.

I doubt that any pre-PowerPC/68k machine here upgrading to the new PowerMac?

You can upgrade a 68k machine to a PowerPC 601 based chip, but that is about it. You may have to look on eBay for those upgrades. Even then the difference I thought was little to none. The PowerPC 601 was a joke to me.

Depends on what you do with it. My friend's 7100/80 rendered Bryce scences 4x to 8x faster than my Quadra 630.

But I believe Bryce was optimized for the 601 at that time.

But overall - System 7 at first seemed snappy, until the new OS updates took it all away when the OS started to get bloated.

I never really noticed a difference until the 604's came along. The 603e's were even better than the 601 - but until the G3 came along the OS never seemed very optimized for the early PowerPC's. Remember System 7.6? It was a hog, and not very stable either.

So, care to crack open your DP1250 and tell us what kind of fans it uses... is it still the Delta ones? My "old" DP1250 is quite whiney, not loud but annoying.

I've got one and they use Nidec Beta Vs now, TA225DC.

Thats for the powersupply. The CPU fan is the same other than the funnel into the heatsink now.

OK, since they obviously use the same CPU fan, but new PS fans I have an idea.

Would it be possible to just exchange the PS (the whole thing) in my old MDD with one for the newer FW800 PowerMacs? I mean, maybe an Apple dealer could order a new PS (as if he needed to replace one) and sell it to me? Would this work? It seems that then the only difference to the new PowerMacs would be the heat sink and I don't believe the noise has that much to with it.

Any ideas? Would that work?

The MDDs at least are overclocked by de-soldering surface mount resistors. Dunno about Quicksilvers. Check out the forums at xlr8yourmac.com for some info on it.

Surface mount chips are evil.
