Hello again,

My new 40gb Seagate is due from NewEgg.com in a couple days, I want to get my act straight before I tear this puppy apart (333mhz iMac). I have a few questions before delving into the unknown (for me anyway)...

1. I know I need a <8gb partition for OS X, do I need any other partitions (I am planning on installing OS 9.2.2 also)

2. Do I install OS 9.2.2 first? or second?

3. Any special procedures I should know before I shoot myself in the hard drive?

I am currently running OS 10.1.5 and 9.2.2. but on my stock 6gb drive things are kinda snug...the extra space and speed of the Barracuda ought to help.

Any help/advice/suggestions/warnings will be appreciated as always, thanks.

1. No other partitions are really needed. Some will split the first 8Gb partition into separate portions for OS9 and X but i really don't think that is needed.

2. Definitely install OS9 first plus whatever upgrades that are needed.

3. The IDE jumper settings for your new drive should already be set for master. Verify that jumper is set as so. Be careful removing the CD drive - try and handle it only from it's sides. i think i damaged by CD drive by holding it a bit too firmly from the top and bottom (this happened like the 4th or 5th time i had to open my iMac after i had some hard drive problems).

Since you're poking inside you might also want to have a can of compressed air to dust out the interior.
