Hey all, so I upgrade my parents old iMac to Jaguar; two reasons, one they got a digital photo and I thought iPhoto would be good for them, and two to get mostly my dad familiar with OSX, he is talking about maybe getting a new machine at the end of this year/ early next. One of the things I did of course was to drop some ram in this puppy, 512MB.

Two things seem to happen from time to time. One: there is a message that appears that is on a transparent background written in several languages saying that the computer must be restart. I believe this is my moms fault, she refuses to sit down and learn how to use a computer and I think she just launches everything until she opens what she think she wants. It's getting better, but is hard to watch, do ask me to explain what it going on inside of her head. Is this the problem or/and is there anything I can do about it?

Two: and this one happens with my dad who is a little more computer literate, the CD-ROM just stops playing, it refuses to work, recognize the CD or eject, I have to turn the computer off and then push the HW reset button, what's going on there?

The transparent message in all those languages is a kernel panic. Kind of like the ultimate system crash. I don't really know what causes them or how to avoid them, just that they happen sometimes. You might be able to write an AppleScript for your Mom that will launch the programs she uses at startup. I'm sure somebody here can help you with that if you wanted help with it.
About the CD-ROM drive, I can only say I hope for you it's a software issue and that the drive isn't dying on you.
