hi there. i am considering a new imac for a replacement computer. i really want a powermac, but between the current prices, underpowered architecture, and liklihood of a new pm coming out in the next year i am going to wait.

my question is to any photographers who have used an imac for their work. this would be opening large raw format images, applying changes in photoshop et al., and file conversions; in addition to everything else for typical digital photo management.

considering a new 1ghz imac with 1gb ram.

any input on system responsiveness and usability would be great.

I use my imac 700 (Flat panel) daily for photo work. It works well enough for me.

And I use a Pismo 500 with Elements without problems. The imac is plenty unless you batch. Just be sure you get plenty of ram.

Stock it up with max RAM, and you should do fine. A 1Ghz G4 is quite powerful and... yeah... I'd go for it.
